Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of gettessen.com (the "Site") and the Tessen macOS application ("Software", together with the Site, the "Service"), provided by Tessen, a sole-trader business operated from the United Kingdom ("Tessen", "we", "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the Software, or by using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The software licence itself — what you may and may not do with the installed application — is set out in the End-User Licence Agreement (EULA), which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Where the EULA and these Terms overlap on software use, the EULA controls.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if higher, and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract, to use the Service.
2. The Service
Tessen is a macOS application that performs speech-to-text dictation and related text formatting entirely on the user's own device. The Site offers information about the Software, an email notification signup, and a checkout flow operated by Stripe.
3. Accounts
Tessen does not require you to create an account to dictate. A licence is tied to the email address used at purchase and a licence key generated at that time; you are responsible for keeping your licence key confidential and for all activity that occurs using it.
4. Free trial and the Free plan
New users may access a time-limited free trial of Tessen Pro, currently 14 days, with full feature access. No payment method is required or collected to start the trial — there is nothing to enter and nothing is ever charged automatically.
When the trial ends, your account moves automatically to the Free plan: 2,000 words a week, Dictation in any app, and Jargon awareness from the text field you are typing in (off by default) and your own dictionary. There is no charge, ever, on the Free plan, and no card is collected for it either — you stay on it for as long as you like, with no time limit, unless you choose to buy a paid subscription. Upgrading to Pro at any time (from the trial, or later from the Free plan) adds Unlimited words, AI cleanup, Industry vocabulary packs — legal, medical, finance, software, Per-app rules, and A personal model built from your own dictation history, entirely on your Mac (macOS 26 requires switching Engine to “Adaptive”, off by default), at the price shown at checkout ($9/mo or $69/yr as of the "Last updated" date above), billed through Stripe from the moment you subscribe.
Your Personal Dictionary, Rules, and dictation history are not deleted when a trial ends or when you move between the Free plan and a paid subscription in either direction.
We may change the length of the free trial, or what the Free plan includes, at any time, including for future users.
One free trial per Mac. A trial is refused if this Mac has already been used for a Tessen trial — downloading the app again on that Mac goes straight to the Free plan. Promotional or discount codes are not accepted.
A paid Pro subscription, once started, renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel it through the Stripe customer billing portal — see Section 5 (Subscriptions, billing, and renewal) and Section 6 (Cancellation).
5. Subscriptions, billing, and renewal
Tessen Pro is offered on a monthly ($9/mo) or annual ($69/yr) subscription basis, billed in advance through Stripe. Prices are shown at checkout and may change with notice as described in Section 12; a price change will not affect a billing period you have already paid for.
- Auto-renewal: subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
- Payment processing: all payment is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full card details.
- Failed payment: if a renewal payment fails, we may suspend Pro features until payment succeeds or the subscription is cancelled.
6. Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time by emailing support@gettessen.com from the address you paid with. That is the route we guarantee, and we will confirm the cancellation to you in writing within one business day. If your receipt from Stripe happens to carry a subscription-management link, you may use that instead — but do not rely on one being there, and email us if it is not.
Cancellation stops future renewal; it does not, by itself, refund the current billing period — see our Refund Policy for that. Access to Pro features continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
7. Refunds
Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, including the statutory withdrawal right available to EU/UK consumers.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes anyone else's rights;
- Attempt to circumvent licence activation or trial limits — including by resetting or manipulating your system clock, environment, or local files to reopen or extend an expired trial;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law (see the EULA for the full software-licence restrictions);
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Software or your licence key without our written consent;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Site's infrastructure, including the notification form or checkout flow.
9. Intellectual property
The Software, the Site, and all associated trademarks, logos, and content are owned by Tessen, a sole-trader business operated from the United Kingdom, or its licensors. These Terms grant you no rights to our intellectual property except the limited licence to use the Software described in the EULA.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT TRANSCRIPTION WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be excluded, including statutory rights under EU/UK consumer protection law.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL Tessen, a sole-trader business operated from the United Kingdom BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where practical, notify active subscribers by email before the change takes effect for them. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms or the EULA. You may stop using the Service, and cancel any subscription, at any time.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the laws of your country of residence.
15. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. These Terms, together with the EULA and the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
